Media Center is a safe space for all!

Media Center  is a safe space and all are welcome.

  • Students are  expected to:
  •  Be Mindful of the  volume of your voice  while  some students are relaxing, many students  are studying/working.
  • Be Respectful and  Purposeful  with the media center space and materials.  Please re-shelve books  appropriately, if unsure  ask for assistance.   Return  wellness activity items-  games/boards etc - to  proper location.  
  •  Be Thoughtful and collect your trash to recycle and dispose appropriately.  
  • Be Responsible - Media center is not a place for play. You are expected to enter and visit  responsibly. You may sit on chairs or floor area but never on tabletops. Additionally, sitting between the book shelves is  not allowed. 
  •  Be Aware-   eating  is not allowed. NO food please, including candy. ***There are times during special events/activities/meetings when food will be permitted**

Visiting Independently/Passes

Expectations & Procedures  Visiting the Media Center 

  • Morning Media : Media Center opens each day at 7:20am.  Students are allowed  to enter  and  stay until the bell rings at 7:40 for first period classes. 
  • Students  visiting independently, during the instructional time of the day, whether to print, check out books, chromebook assistance etc,  must have a signed pass from  your teacher.    **We will ask you to  return to class  to get a signed pass, if you are without one***
  • Upon entering the   media center,  stop at the circulation desk, present your pass to media staff  and sign in  using the computer/Google form. 
  • Students without a scheduled class (ie. abbreviated schedules, Dual Enrollment, Applied Internship etc)  are  allowed  to  work in the media center during your off period as longs as you are following rules/procedures and are  not  a distraction to instruction.    Please sign in at the  circulation desk .   
  • Media staff  monitors all sign and passes as well as  verifying  schedules with synergy. 
  • ADVISORY and Lunch  - passes are not required  during advisory or lunch.  Students may visit  independently when Media center is available and use the  free time to  study,  work on classwork,  collaborate with peers,  check out books or simply relax. Be Mindful that often thee are  student club meetings/staff meetings  or  other events that may warrant the closing of media center to no participants. 
  • NO FOOD. NO SNACKS. NO EATING is allowed.  Students may  have drinks with lids, as t not spill! 

 

Checking Out Materials

Checking Out Books

  • Students  will check out books  using  their student ID number.  
  • Books are circulated for a   3- week period. 
  • There is not a check out limit.  Students  may borrow as may books as they choose.***( please be thoughtful about  titles in a series- may not borrow an entire series at once) 
  • Overdue reminders  are  delivered  through  1st period  classes  and student  MCPS Google email.
  • We do not charge late fee fines but lost or damaged books will  result in an obligation.
  • Books overdue by 30 days will become an obligation with the finance office.  

The book you want is checked  out, now what?

If the book  you'd like to read is  checked out, you can easily place a  HOLD or RESERVE on the  book.   When the  book becomes available, the media staff will notify you!    Click here  for  instructions on how to place a book on hold. 

 

Chromebooks

CHROMEBOOKS 

If you are new to Wootton, and  have not  picked up your  chromebook, please come to the Media Center.  We will assign you  a  chromebook. Please your  MCPS Chromebook EVERY day, and fully charged.

  

  • Troubleshooting Chromebook  -  not working or charging improperly,  lost , etc - see  Mr. Lu(Rm 112) , Mr. Jacobs in TV Studio or ask for assistance at the circulation desk. 
  • Charging a  chromebook-  must  connect your charger to the left side of your chromebook to charge.  The right side will NOT charge it , only power it on.
  • Damage or  lost chromebooks will result in an obligation with the Finance Office.  Please see Mr. Lu in  room 112 for more information. 

Printing & Passwords

PRINTING 

  • Printing from your cellphone or personal device is  not an option. 
  • Students  are  able to print with a  MCPS issued chromebook to the black and white  printer  in the Media Center. 
  • Students have a  daily  printing limit of 20 pages.  It may be 20 single side pages or 10 double side pages and it must be school/classwork related.
  •  Printing in COLOR  requires  assistance and the use  of the  computers in the Media Center.  Please ask for help.*****

 

PASSWORDS

Please  ask for assistance  if you  are having issues with your password, i.e. it was reset, you forgot it etc.   We can help you! 

YouTube Permission Form

Viewing YouTube Videos for Class 

Students must have  signed permission from your parent/guardian  to  access YouTube videos for classwork.   If you are unable to view  any posted  videos by your teacher, you will need to   complete and submit  your signed GSuite Form to the media center. Click here to download  a  copy.   You may also pick  up a  copy in the media center.   GSuite Form must be signed by your  parent/guardian for approval.

Per MCPS:

Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) requires consent from parents/guardians (or eligible students) to provide high school students with access to Google’s G Suite Additional Services as part of their individual student accounts. Please complete this form and return it to your student’s school. Consent remains valid for the entire time the student is enrolled in an MCPS high school and may be rescinded at any time. If you do not return the form, we will assume your child is NOT permitted to use the Additional Services.

 If you  are having issues with your canvas classes,  missing a class on your dashboard,  submitting assignments or  anything else, please see Ms. Burk in the  Media Center. 

 Need assistance with StudentVue page OR  your parents/guardians need access to ParentVue,  please see Ms. Burk!
